West Midlands photographer Edward Shaw is a professionally trained photographer who shoots a range of commercial and editorial photography. Based in Birmingham, he works from a spacious studio just south of Birmingham city centre close to the ring road. He also offers high quality location photography across the West Midlands and surrounding area.
"Ever since I first bought a camera in 1988, I have been passionate about photography. Although I made my first commercial sale of photographs soon after buying this camera, it took me another 8 years to commit to a photography career. In 1998, whilst working in New Zealand, I applied for a place on the highly regarded Advanced Diploma Photography course at Massey University, Wellington. On acceptance, I handed in my notice at work and have not looked back since!
As a student I won several photography competitions, including a national landscape photography competition, and regularly shot landscape images for calendars and other markets. I now take great satisfaction in crafting professional photographs of all types of subject, and enjoy the spectrum of challenges that photography provides, from lighting a food still life photograph, arranging a group portrait or deliberating on the ideal viewpoint for a cityscape. Much of my work involves photographing business people at their workplace, and I shoot corporate portrait photographs for covers and features of several business magazines.
I also shoot stock photography for Getty Images and other Getty businesses, including a popular range of stock shots of Birmingham.
My clients include charities, advertising and design agencies, actors, publishing companies and magazines. My fine-art black & white pinhole photography has also been exhibited through dealer galleries and curated shows in New Zealand and the USA.
I now shoot with top-of the range Nikon professional digital equipment. For many jobss I shoot digital photographs direct to a computer, to give immediate high resolution viewing of photographs and help guarantee that the images I shoot are those my customers require.
